"At last i got out my contract im coming home to my children soooo excited," the Sun quoted her as having tweeted on her Twitter page.

Katie Price is said to worried her ex-lover cage-fighter Alex Reid will expose raunchy photos of her to get back at her for dumping him on live TV.

Brit teenager says she'll do anything to look like her idol Jordan

A Brit teenager, who is an ardent fan of Katie Price a.k.a Jordan, has revealed that she is willing to go to any lengths to look like her idol, and helping her to achieve that goal is her mother.

Sophie Brown looks like any typical 15-year-old with her long blonde hair and slim figure, but the only thing that makes her different from the rest is her ambition to be just like the 31-year-old glamour model.

"I think Jordan is very inspirational," the Mirror quoted Sophie, who is already dieting and planning a boob job, as saying.

"Not only is she really pretty but she's got the perfect life. She has beautiful children, is always on TV and she's a great businesswoman with lots of money.

"That's why I will do anything it takes to become a famous glamour model like her," she said.

Her 33-year-old mum Pauline agrees, even though her husband Stephen has aired his concerns about their eldest daughter being photographed in bikinis.

Pauline already spends 18,000 pounds-a-year, most of her salary, on Sophie's clothes and make-up, and she is saving money to give her daughter a boob job, and also pay for her liposuction if her diet does not work.

"All our spare money goes on Sophie," Pauline said.

"Her monthly manicures, visits to the hairdresser, spray tans, make-up and clothes cost about 1,500 pounds a month.

"Stephen and I used to go out for the odd meal but now we can't afford it. Sophie's sisters occasionally moan that she gets all the attention but they have all had the same chances.

"And when I see Sophie looking so stunning, I feel all the sacrifices are worth it," she added. (ANI)

'Smaller' BBC after 2012?

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has hinted that there would be a reduction in the scale of its popular website, and also the possible closure of some of its digital channels or radio stations.

BBC's director general Mark Thompson said that move has come after claims from politicians and rivals in commercially funded media that it had grown too big.

But Thompson also made a fierce defence of the independence of the Corporation and claimed that public service broadcasters around the world were under threat because of the downturn in the media economy.

Thompson, who is leading a strategic review of the BBC, said the Corporation would be cutting back areas of its output following the switch-off of the analogue signal in 2012.

"Expect to see reductions in some kinds of programmes and content - look, for example, at the current scope of our website - and a close examination of the future of our service portfolios once switch-over has been achieved," the Independent quoted him as saying.e said the BBC would in future be reducing its expenditure on the acquisition of foreign-made programmes in favour of increasing the amount of British-made content.

Discussing bbc.co.uk, Britain's largest website, the director general questioned the scale of the project and whether "many millions of pages that are up there need to be there".

He said the review would question the value of this content. Is it sufficiently up to date, is it relevant? It might be a slightly smaller website. It might be stronger, making sure we are playing to our strengths," he said.

Thompson signalled that a period of growth for the BBC, when channels were launched and budgets extended was at an end.

"The high-water mark of new channel launches and of content investment was passed some years ago," he said.

"Instead, the focus is on offering convenient new ways of giving the public access to existing content, rather than representing expansions into fresh content areas," he stated.

He accepted that in the three years since the BBC last conducted a strategic review, the media landscape had "changed almost beyond recognition" and "the effect of that, and of the downturn, on many incumbent media businesses has been devastating".

But, speaking at the Voice of the Listener and Viewer conference in London, Thompson also defended the BBC's record and suggested that without the Corporation, Britain would be left with "a big, black cultural hole".

He said economic and technological changes explained why "the assault on public service broadcasting is happening across the developed world", citing comments made in Germany, Italy and Belgium.

In Britain, Thompson said, the language of the BBC's rivals was "becoming more extreme and intemperate".

He said the BBC "should not respond to, let alone be cowed by, vindictive or groundless press attacks", including those over issues of taste and decency, saying the Corporation had a duty to "stand up for creative freedom and ambition".

He also claimed that, in spite of public criticism of BBC management by both leading parties, "underlying political support for a strong, independent BBC also remains robust". (ANI)

Peter Andre 'sues ex-wife Jordan for over 300k pounds'

Aussie singer Peter Andre is said to be suing his ex-wife Katie Price a.k.a. Jordan for over 300,000 pounds in damages.

Andre, 36, is suing Jordan, 31, for accusing him of sleeping around behind her back and also for exaggerating his involvement in her son Harvey's life.

But the singer is not the only one suing the former glamour model, as his manager Claire Powell has also decided to take legal action against her for insinuating on the Graham Norton Show that she had a fling with Andre.

They're also both seeking injunctions against Jordan to prevent her from ever repeating her claims.

"Pete will not stand for Kate's lies," the Mirror quoted a source as saying.

"She may be the mother of his children but he won't stand for her vile untruths.

"He does not want his kids growing up and reading disgusting lies about their father on the internet so he needed to set the record straight for posterity.

"It is not about the money - that is neither here nor there for him - it is the principle. He adores Harvey and views the boy as his own son - he would see him all the time if he could.

"And as for suggestions he's involved with anyone new, especially Claire, it is utterly ridiculous," the source added. (ANI)

Portman finds Los Angeles better than New York

Israeli/American actress Natalie Portman has revealed that she finds her Los Angeles neighbours to be more welcoming than the locals she lived with in her native New York.

Portman, 28, who recently bought a new property on the West Coast, admits that she enjoys the place and finds her neighbours to be wonderful.

"I just got a house. It's fantastic and its pretty nice to have sun every day. It was beautiful and we moved right in. My neighbours are lovely and my dog loves it," the Daily Star quoted her as saying.

The actress, who celebrated her big purchase by throwing a housewarming party for all her friends, revealed she was worried when some neighbours came knocking at her door.

But she was pleasantly surprised when they asked to join in the fun instead of threatening to call the police.

"In New York, when I had a party I'd get a note the next day saying, 'Next time we'll call the police'," she explained.

"I had my first party (in L.A.) the other day, a housewarming, and had some friends over, had the music going and then someone said, 'Natalie, your neighbours are at the door' and I thought, 'Oh no!'

It's official: Men are better shoppers

When it comes to shopping, men are much more efficient than women, according to a new survey.

Although, females go for shopping more often, the new study showed they are more likely to return home - empty-handed.

Men spend less time in the shops, adopting a SAS-style "in and out, no messing about" approach, and most of the time get what they are after.

While, women spend almost seven hours a month shopping, men take just five hours.

The survey also showed that eight out of 10 females often go home with goods they had no intention of buying, however, almost a third of men say they always get their desired items.

"Women may be the ones who enjoy shopping, but this survey shows that it's actually men who are more successful," the Daily Express quoted a spokesman for Kodak All-in-One printers as saying.

"You are more likely to find women slowly strolling around the shops trying on various outfits before actually -making a purchase.

"And even then, it is likely they will buy a lot of other things in place of the item they were actually searching for.

"But thanks to a guy's hatred of all things shopping, they are much more efficient - just going in, getting what they need and leaving," he added.

The study of 3,000 men and women in Britain also reveals that men are -better with cash, with 56 per cent saying they would happily wait until something they liked was in a sale.

In addition over 70 per cent of men also prefer to spend more money on quality items that will last, while women go for the cheapest item, regardless of quality. (ANI)

Britney's paparazzo ex beau jailed for leaving accident

Saturday, November 21, 2009

Adnan Ghalib, ex-boyfriend of pop star Britney Spears, has received a 45-day sentence in prison for leaving the scene of an accident earlier this year.

Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for Los Angeles District Attorney, said Ghalib was taken into custody immediately after being sentenced Friday, reports The China Daily.

Robison added that Ghalib was also ordered to serve three years of formal probation and perform 45 days of roadside cleanup duty.

The punishment resulted from an incident on February 11, when Ghalib tried to escape a process server attempting to issue a restraining order obtained by Spears's dad against him.

He pleaded no contest last month to leaving the scene of the accident.

Spears, now 27, began a relationship with Ghalib in December 2007 when her private and public life were falling apart following her divorce, stints in rehab and a notorious head shaving incident. (ANI)

Mixed feelings in Chicago over Oprah end

Oprah Winfrey's decision to end her talk show in 2011 has attracted mixed feelings from the people of Chicago, where the programme is shot.

While some people believe it can affect local tourism and businesses in Chicago, others seem unconcerned about her departure from the city.

The reason, according to Chicago Tribune media critic Phil Rosenthal, is that though Winfrey first came to Chicago in 1984 as the host of "AM Chicago," she never fully became a true Chicagoan like former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka and actor Vince Vaughn.

"There's not much Chicago in her program," The Christian Science Monitor quoted Rosenthal as saying.

"It's not like [David] Letterman who is out on the streets of New York. I think she benefited from having a middle American audience, but in terms of an actual association with the city, I'm not so sure," he added.

The Chicago Office of Tourism says Winfrey's show "has provided Chicago with worldwide exposure and been a tremendous benefit to the city."

"We absolutely are saddened to hear about Oprah's decision but it's her choice. We've appreciated her work here in Illinois for 20-something-odd years," said Marcelyn Love, spokesperson for the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

JLo, Marc Anthony in 3m court battle over dog bite

Jennifer Lopez and her hubby Marc Anthony are in legal trouble, all because of their dog.

The couple is facing a 3-million-pound lawsuit launched by an airhostess who claims she was bitten by Anthony's guard dog.

According to court papers, Lisa Wilson, 40, has claimed that the military-trained German shepherd attacked her while she was working on a private jet three years ago.

Floyd, Anthony's "personal protection" dog, is said to have growled at Wilson as she walked past, before biting the leg of her trousers and causing her to fall over.

Wilson has alleged that she injured her back so badly she can no longer work, and is now suing the couple in New York's Brooklyn Federal Court for 3million pounds.

Meanwhile, it has emerged that a vet who examined the animal concluded that the singer and her husband were responsible for the alleged attack.

The airhostess was carrying silverware at the time of the alleged attack and the vet found that the couple's personal chef had also been targeted by the dog when he carried sharp objects.

Wilson, a flight attendant for NetJets, has claimed she had been warned to be careful around Floyd, suggesting the couple knew he was a threat.

She also said that Anthony told her not to make eye contact with the dog and to call Floyd by his name if she needed to pass.

According to court papers, Lopez and Anthony, 41, were flying from Republic Airport in Farmingdale, Long Island, to Burbank, California when the incident occurred on July 3, 2006.

"The dog was obviously dangerous and we will prove at trial that it was only a matter of time before he hurt someone," the Daily Express quoted Wilson's lawyer William Cafaro as saying.

Cafaro said that the dog should have been made to wear a muzzle or a leash and the owners should have warned his client "to stay completely away from the dog".

Joseph Varvaro, a lawyer for Lopez and Anthony, responded in court papers that the pair had hired their own animal-behaviour expert to evaluate Floyd. (ANI)

Miley Cyrus gets relief from controversial race photo lawsuit

Miley Cyrus has won a court battle over a racially insensitive photo, for which she posed earlier this year (09).

A judge has dismissed a 4-billion-dollar lawsuit filed against her by a member of the Asian community in Los Angeles.

Lucie Kim sued the 'Hannah Montana' star on behalf of L.A.'s Asian citizens after a picture of the singer and her pals making a "slanty eyes" gesture surfaced online in February (09), reports Contactmusic.

Kim alleged that the photo showed Cyrus and her pals mocking Asians and insisted she was emotionally stressed after viewing the snap.

While Cyrus did apologise, Kim pressed ahead with plans to file suit, reports Contactmusic.

During a hearing in June (09), Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Robert Hess claimed Cyrus' behaviour was "immature and childish".

But he admitted that he had "grave doubts" Kim would be able to prove her contention that the singer is a "business establishment" and therefore obliged not to act in such a manner publicly.

Kim lost her bid for compensation from the 17-year-old on Friday, when Hess dismissed the case altogether.

But, she is considering appealing the ruling, reports TMZ.com. (ANI)

8 pounds jeans 'better made' and durable than 120 pounds jeans

A pair of jeans costing 8 pounds is better made and durable than a 123-pound pair, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers's study.

In the study, experts analysed how well made high street clothes were, and found that supermarket and so-called value retailers performed better than designer names.

The consultancy tested ten pairs of ladies jeans and ten polo shirts.

The jeans ranged in price from 7 pounds to 123 pounds, while the polo shirt ranged in price from 12 pounds to 85 pounds.

And in both cases, the cheap versions of the clothes generally fared better than the expensive versions.

However, PWC refused to reveal the names of the ten different retailers, for fear of damaging their relationship with the companies, most of whom they advise.

But, it confirmed that it looked at the main supermarket clothing suppliers as well as value retailers and also examined the mid-market players as well as high street designer brands.

They tested the garments in a professional laboratory, used by the fashion industry.

The garments were tested in 15 different trials, which analysed their colourfastness, their seam strength, how much they shrunk, and their resistance to abrasion.

"We didn't test for fit, fashionability or brand. We purely looked at the quality of the clothes, how well made they were," the Telegraph quoted Andy Garbutt, retail expert at PWC, as saying.

"And it is clear that there is no longer a link between quality and price. It may not have been the cheapest clothes that won, but it was often the second cheapest,' added Garbutt.

With the jeans the top performing pair cost 8 pounds, followed by an 18-pound pair with a 9.50-pound pair in third place. The worst two performers were a 40- pound and a 25-pound pair. The 123-pound pair came in fourth place.

With the polo shirt the top performer cost 12 pounds, followed by another 12 pounds version, with a 4.50 pounds shirt in third place.

The average price of the three worse performers was 15 pounds, with the 85 pounds shirt in fifth place. (ANI)

Hrithik's 'Kites' being re-formatted in Hollywood for Western audiences

Well known American filmmaker Brett Ratner (Red Dragon) is "editing" English version of Bollywood blockbuster 'Kites' to fit in the Western psyche, according to reports.

It may be the first for a Hollywood director formatting a Bollywood movie.

Reports suggest that intercultural romance thriller 'Kites' has two versions-one for domestic Indian audience and another English version for international audiences.

While the domestic version has been completed, the international version is still being formatted.

The two versions were reportedly shot simultaneously in Hindi and English in Las Vegas (Nevada), New Mexico, and Los Angeles (California) in USA.

Acclaimed Indo-American statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, welcomed Hollywood and Bollywood coming together, sharing resources on various creative and technical aspects of filmmaking.

Since these world's biggest moviemaking centres controlled the psyche of a large populace of the world, this might result in world coming closer, said Zed.

Directed by Filmfare winner Anurag Basu, produced by Rakesh Roshan, with music by Rajesh Roshan, the bi-lingual Salsa dance based 'Kites' is said to be a love story that defies boundaries-cultures-rules-barriers-language.

Proposed to be released next summer worldwide, it stars Filmfare winner Hrithik Roshan, Uruguay born Mexican actress-model MTV winner Barbara Mori, Kangana Ranaut, Nicholas Brown, Kabir Bedi, etc. (ANI)

It is yet to be released in many countries.

He will reportedly visit India next month in this connection.

This documentary film about the life and teachings and knowledge of Maharishi will involve interviews with people, including a 97-year man associated with Maharishi, reports suggest.

David Keith Lynch, 63, has been attempting to introduce TM in schools globally. The Guardian, British daily newspaper from London, described Lynch as "the most important director of this era."

Welcoming Lynch to India for this new venture, acclaimed Indo-American statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, urged world filmmakers to explore many finer and deeper things India offered, instead of just focusing on poverty and crime.

Zed, who is chairperson of Indo-American Leadership Confederation, pointed out that planet's most multidimensional country India had snowcapped mountains, palm-fringed and sun-washed beaches, glorious temples, colourful festivals, rich philosophy and spirituality, abundant historical sites, wildlife safaris, recharging treks, historic trade routes, cultural wealth, etc.

Maharishi, who died last year at an age of about 91, introduced TM technique worldwide, and wished to change the world with it.

He initiated 'The Beatles' and was associated with various celebrities like American rockers 'The Beach Boys', musician Mick Jagger, hairdresser Vidal Sassoon, Golden Globe winner Mia Farrow (Rosemary's Baby), etc.

He reportedly established about one thousand TM centres worldwide and had about four million followers. (ANI)

Getting married brings happiness worth 18k pounds to men!

Tying the knot makes men feel happy to the worth of 18,000 pounds while women experience the joy worth only half the amount, an economist has calculated.

Paul Frijters, Queensland University of Technology, estimated the value in cash terms of the happiness created by major life events such as marriage, divorce and illness.

The Australian university professor spent the last eight years on the study and found events appeared to have different effects on men than women.

Wedding bells apparently provide only around 9,000 pounds worth of joy to women, reports the Telegraph.

While divorce left men feeling at a loss of 61,500 pounds, for women it was a mere loss of 5,000 pounds, the study suggested.

The birth of a child created a low cash amount, more than 18,000 pounds for a man and just under 5,000 pounds for a woman.

According to the findings, the death of a partner or a child creates the feeling of a loss of 73,000 pounds to a woman and more than 350,000 pounds to a man.

Paul Frijters said

Smoking, kids, age, cash determine fate of romance: Study

Forget romance. Australian researchers have pointed out that smoking, kids, age and cash were among key indicators of whether a marriage or partnership will survive.

The study, entitled 'What's Love Got To Do With It', by Australian National University found that the reasons that a couple stays together boil down to a lot more than love.

Report author Dr Rebecca Kippen discovered age, previous relationships and smoking habits were among other factors that determine the fate of a relationship, reports the Daily Telegraph.

The research followed 2,500 couples who were married or living together over a six year period.

According to the figures, a quarter of relationships will end within six years and half within 25 years, the paper said.

The chances of divorce were doubled in a husband who was nine or more years older than his wife or in the case of husbands who tie the knot before turning 25, the study found.

One in five couples who have children before marriage later went separate ways while women who want kids much more than their partners were also more likely to divorce.

The report further said that money also played to a significant role in keeping a couple together with sixteen per cent of respondents who had a low income or where only the husband was unemployed divorced during the study.

Only nine per cent of couples with good financial backing divorced.

And relationships where only one partner smokes or where the wife was a heavier drinker than her husband, are also more likely to end in failure.

Factors which appeared to be less important included country of birth, religious background, education levels, the number and age of children born to a married couple, the wife's employment status and the number of years the couple had been employed. (ANI)

Ex-accountant says Nicholas Cage was 'compulsive' spender

American actor Nicholas Cage's former accountant has claimed that the star was a 'compulsive' spender, who brought ruin upon himself.

Samuel J. Levin, who is Cage's former financial advisor, said in documents filed in L.A. Superior Court, the actor was an out-of-control and debt-ridden spender who bucked any attempt to reign in his over-the-top lifestyle.

The actor had claimed in his filing that Samuel J. Levin, "lined his [own] pockets with several million dollars in business management fees while sending Cage down a path toward financial ruin".

Levin denies the claims, saying he was paid a standard fee for a business manager.

While in his lawsuit Cage alleges that he was in the dark about his dire financial situation, Levin claims he did everything short of cutting up the actor's credit cards.

Levin said he also warned Cage's agents and representatives and pleaded with him not to buy more real estate.

"[Cage] knows that his losses are entirely and solely the result of his own compulsive, self-destructive spending, which he engaged in against Levin's advice," People magazine quoted the complaint as stating.

Edis Kayalar, 26, who has been accused of attempting to extort 62,500 pounds from the couple, walked into a police station in Stuttgart, south-west Germany late on November 16, reports the Daily Star.

Gerber had paid Kayalar, the acquaintance of a former nanny, 625 pounds to keep a controversial snap of their young daughter bound to a chair in revealing clothing away from the media and Internet.

But Kayalar threatened to sell the picture to the press for 312,500 pounds before he was deported to his native Germany in September this year.

He continued his threats to sell the picture earlier this month, and allegedly demanded 62,500 pounds from the couple to keep it private - prompting the model and her husband to call in the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The model's representatives insist the controversial photo at the centre of the extortion plot was taken by the nanny during a game of cops and robbers, without Crawford's knowledge.

Kayalar, who had to appear before a judge on November 17, could face up to two years in prison. (ANI)

U2 fined 33K over noisy gigs

U2 have been fined 33,125pounds for violating noise regulations during three gigs in Dublin in July this year.

An investigation followed the Croke Park concerts after residents complained of excessive noise levels and found that U2 had played breached the noise regulations 12 times.

The Dublin City Council has now ordered concert promoters MCD to pay the fine.

However, residents are not satisfied with the "paltry" fine.

"It is a paltry penalty, it really isn't a disincentive. They would write that off in terms of planning for such things. Any fines that do accrue to the city council should be invested back into the local community as they were the ones that put up with it," the Daily Star quoted Pat Gates, chair of the Croke Park Area Residents' Alliance, as saying. Flash 40 percent of your skin to allure men!

Women should wear clothes that bare 40 per cent of their bodies in a bid to allure men, say experts.

Keeping the right balance between revealing too much and being too conservative has long been a dilemma for women while choosing the right clothes.

A research team from University of Leeds observed women at one of the city's biggest nightclubs from a balcony above the dance floor.

Using tape recorders hidden in their handbags, they took note of what female clubbers wore. Each arm accounted for 10 per cent of the body, each leg for 15 per cent and the torso for 50 per cent.

They also calculated how many times these women were approached by men asking them to dance.

The study found that women who showed off around 40 per cent of their skin attracted twice as many men as those who covered up.

In contrast, too much skin show turned men off as it suggests they might be unfaithful.

"Any more than 40 per cent and the signal changes from 'allure' to one indicating general availability and future infidelity," the Telegraph quoted lead researcher and psychologist Dr Colin Hendrie, as telling the Daily Mail.

"Show some leg, show some arm, but not any more than that," Hendrie added.

The most popular women combined the 40 per cent rule with tight clothing and provocative dancing. The 15 per cent that combined all three criteria were approached by 40 men each.

The study appears in journal Behaviour. (ANI)

Belle de Jour scientist's dad admits sleeping with 150 prostitutes

Belle de Jour hooker Brooke Magnanti's father Paul has confessed that he paid for sex with more than 150 women.

Brooke, the research scientist who confessed to being Belle de Jour, the 300 pound-an-hour call girl, broke off contact with her father after she discovered he was sleeping with prostitutes.

Paul, 60, said that his only daughter had been "hurt" when she found out he was using prostitutes after divorcing her mother more than a decade ago.

He also said that it was possible that his extensive use of prostitutes had been a factor in his daughter's decision to become an escort girl years later.

He has admitted paying for sex with more than 150 women.I cannot say for certain until I speak to her, but it may have affected her. I guess she came to the realisation that prostitutes are just people, it's not the stereotype that people often seem to think," the Telegraph quoted him as saying.

"They are people with good hearts who have had problems in their lives and have fallen down. Often because of a bad family life or bad relationships or suffering violence, they have low self-esteem," he added.

Mariah Carey lashes out at music industry bosses for illegal downloads

R 'n' B singer Mariah Carey has lashed out at music industry bosses, blaming them for failing to spot the internet download trend.

Carey, 39, accused record labels of letting their artists down by allowing illegal file-sharing to become commonplace, and is adamant that bosses should have realised the potential of the Internet a long time before illicit song swapping became prevalent.

She is also furious because the practise means many musicians lose out on precious royalty money.

The Hero hitmaker insists that although record labels are slowly beginning to grasp the potential of the internet, they will never be able to repair the damage done by illegal downloads, because many consumers now feel entitled to get their music for free.

"Frickin' idiots! A lot of big, powerful music industry executives made a giant mistake and now we're all paying the price. They gave the music business away on the Internet," the Daily Star quoted her as saying.

"If they had just sat back and said, 'Maybe let's figure this Internet thing out, it could be something cool,' we could have found a way to distribute music online on our own terms, not somebody else's.

"Prince had already shown them the way. He was so far ahead of the curve, putting his records out on the web. Everyone else was stupid," she added. (ANI)
